Hospice Donations

District 46 donated $1000 to each of two Hospices currently operating in Muskoka. The cost of a hospice care bed is less than half the cost of a hospital bed where the focus is on acute care. Donations are vital to the survival and growth of hospice.  While provincial funding covers approximately 50% of medical staffing costs for Andy’s House, Hospice Muskoka is responsible for raising funds to cover all other operating costs.  Their services are free and accessible thanks to ongoing support of donations. An urgent solution is required to make hospices sustainable.

Climate Action

Seniors for Climate project launches nationwide in a Zoom event to be held on May 28. Register at seniorsforclimate.org and learn more about plans for National Seniors Day on October 1.

Volunteer positions open

District 46 needs a new President! An orientation meeting will run on June 20^th for newly appointed District Presidents.  Welcome Jenn, Jo and Phil to the Executive Committee as Bursary rep, Member at Large and Travel Coordinator.

The Ontario SPCA and Humane Society strive to provide care, comfort, and compassion to all animals in need in our communities.  Accordingly, they have launched their AnimalSmart^TM program, consisting of a series of lessons developed to foster empathy, promote a sense of responsibility within the community, and inspire connection with animals and the environment.  Each presentation includes humane education information, activities and resources for building upon the messaging.  See pages 3 and 5 of the newsletter for more info.

Fifteen students graduating from high schools in Muskoka submitted applications for a $3000 Bursary this spring.
